Our First Night in Bangkok

Midnight Food Tour by Tuk Tuk

We stepped off the plane and into the bustling city of Bangkok, Thailand, the excitement was palpable. We had been planning this trip for weeks and we’re finally here. Apparently, we flew in at rush hour traffic and the line for a taxi was insanely long. We immediately found a luxury car service, the 3 of us piled in and were on our way. It was definitely a time crunch, off we went to our hotel in time to make our Midnight Food Tour on Tuk Tuk. Our first stop was the YOLO boutique hotel located in the Wattana district near Central Embassy, where we spastically checked in and dropped off our luggage.

As adventurous foodies, we couldn’t wait to dive into the local cuisine. We had booked a midnight food tour via Viator that promised to take us on a culinary journey through the city’s best local dishes. Bustling by taxi, we arrived at meeting spot a little after 7 pm. Thankfully our tour guide waited for us. A large group of approx. 12 stood around as 6 Tuk Tuk’s pulled up , and we were off.

Our first stop was sharing an entire typical Isan food from northeast Thailand. Plenty of food, so make sure you come hungry. The flavors were intense, and we couldn’t get enough. Our next stop was dessert. You got it, their famous Mango Sticky Rice. THE BEST and sweetest mangos I have ever devoured. It was definitely a savory treat that had our taste buds dancing. Then there was ubiquitous pad Thai and stir-fried sukiyaki, which were equally delicious. By this time, we were stuffed full. More food??? YUP. Our final culinary destination was the Michelin-starred Ann Guay Tiew Khua Gai, where we indulged in their famous fried noodles with crispy fried egg and chicken skins, along with the most delicious sauces. It was a meal to remember. The food was prepared in the back alley, yes you read that right. They do not have kitchens in most restaurants due to fire precautions. It was so neat to watch them cook our meals with high flames and laughter. Next we ventured to the Pak Klong Talat Flower Market, where we learned how to fold lotus petals into a beautiful masterpiece. It was a unique experience of magic in the night. Chinatown was a site to see with all the jumbled wires dangling off buildings, burnt business’ from those same wires. On one corner, was a small cart where they prepared our last sweet treat. We tried banana roti street side. The roti was a thin dough fried with bananas inside and drizzled with chocolate, served hot. Very delish if you like bananas.

Finally, we ended our night at the Eagles Nest Rooftop Bar, where we enjoyed a drink while taking in the stunning view of Phrs Borom Maha. One non-alcohol drink is included with tour but we added an extra spirit to cheers the night with a few other couples on the tour. The tuk tuk ride back to our hotel was a fun and exciting way to cap off an unforgettable first night in Bangkok. We couldn’t wait to see what the rest of our trip had in store for us. If this first night was any indication, we were in for an unforgettable adventure filled with delicious food, beautiful sights, and memorable experiences. Stay tuned for more updates from our journey through Thailand and beyond.

Eagle’s Nest Rooftop Bar

Last stop.

After buzzing through the streets; bright lights in a Tuk Tuk you arrive at your last stop. The view after the steep steps is so worth it. Nestled inside The Point Brisbane Hotel at Kangaroo Point deluxe hotel (make sure you’re quite in the late evening).

One non-alcoholic drink is included as you gaze at the stunning view of the Thai capital: Wat ArunWat Pho and Wat Phra Kaeo. Take some breathtaking photos to look back on and cheers to your first night in Bangkok.

We had a wonderful tour group, from all over the world. Undoubtedly, we had a fabulous time eating our way to exhaustion back to our hotel room a little after 1 am.
